Advanced Car Hire has been family-owned and run from Windhoek, Namibia since 2003. We are not a global chain. Every vehicle that leaves our yard has been personally checked by our own team, and every journey starts with a real conversation with someone who knows the roads. We specialise in self-drive 4x4 and camper rentals across Namibia and Southern Africa, built for travellers who want the freedom of the open road without the fear of being stranded on it. Is a 4x4 really necessary in Namibia?
Yes, a 4x4 is strongly recommended for driving in Namibia. Around 90% of the country's roads are gravel, and while you won't engage the 4x4 function on every route, the high ground clearance and all-terrain tyres make the drive noticeably more comfortable and far better suited to these surfaces. Smaller cars frequently pick up underbody damage on gravel roads, and that damage is not covered by any car rental company in Namibia. A properly equipped 4x4 protects both your trip and your peace of mind.
Are kilometres unlimited?
Yes, all our rentals include unlimited kilometres, so you can explore Namibia freely with no distance caps or extra mileage charges.
What is the minimum age to rent your vehicles?
Under Namibian law, the minimum driving age is 18, so to rent a vehicle from us you must be at least 18 years old and have held a valid driver's licence for more than one year. This applies to all drivers across our 4x4 and camping fleet.
Do you require a deposit or hold funds on my credit card?
No, we do not block any funds on your credit card. On arrival at our Windhoek office, we deduct the rental amount only if it has not been paid in advance. For your chosen Excess Option and the exclusions listed in our Terms and Conditions, we simply take a card imprint as security. When the vehicle is returned without damage, your copy of that imprint is handed back to you.
Is the complimentary airport transfer still valid if we arrive a day before the rental pick up date or if we leave a day after we return the vehicle?
Yes, the complimentary airport transfer still applies. We will collect you from Hosea Kutako International Airport and take you to your guesthouse, then transfer you to our office the following day for collection. This is all included in your rental price. Please note that only ONE transfer from the airport to Windhoek, and only ONE transfer from Windhoek to the airport, is permitted per rental.
